语法jj里有一位750 v42的nn
说到
“考到GWD原题，Whereas开头的，正确选项也是这个A， established corporations/companies..., modern corporations/companies,我记得不太清了，但肯定是established企业和modern的企业对比的。”

考古后发现疑似是这题，但是GWD的答案是B啊。。。。。莫非我对错答案了？

"Whereas" and "although" are both correct. We can't choose between A and B on the basis of these words.

The reference of the pronoun "they" is unambiguous in both A and B. It refers both logically and grammatically to the subject of the preceding clause "lines." We can't choose between A and B on the basis of this word either.

What makes B wrong is the phrase: "as competing companies one day may be partners the next." The separation of "competing" from "one day" confuses the intended meaning. In A, "companies that compete one day may be partners the next" is clear and logical.

Now back to my cave...

窃以为，另外：A中的compete是定语从句中的动词，而B中的competing变为修饰成分，改变了句子的表达重心。

whereas 是连词 表示转折含义,  不需要链接的两个句子主语一致。
I like apple, but you like pig.
Whereas I like apple, you like pig.
这俩个都是可以的。

唯一 A 有点不好的是the more established industries  可能有歧义。只是可能。
但是相比于 as companies that compete one day may be partners the next. 完美平行来说 还是A 比较靠谱
