版上好像没有讨论如何写个人背景essay的。一般的问题是tell classmates about yourself, you and your background ... 个人觉得这个论题太大了，无从下手啊……总不能一开头就是I was born or long long long time ago...大家有什么看法和经验可以分享吗？谢了！

Yes my friend, your approach sounds just fine here.  Just remember to FOLLOW DIRECTIONS.  So, when they ask you to “introduce yourself to your classmates” for example, you should do exactly that.  Don’t launch into a story about your past—INTRODUCE yourself.  You don’t need to start with “Hi my name is Dong” etc., but you SHOULD be sure to talk about yourself just as you would in a conversation with someone you were meeting for the first time.  “I was born in YYYY,” or even something more playful like “I bet you didn’t expect that someone with this big a smile would be from the smallest town in southwest China” etc.  Introduce yourself dude, don’t just “Write an essay…
