At universitiesand colleges, sports and social activities are just as important as classes andlibraries and should receive equal financial support.

Recently,some people have been discussing whether it is necessary to regard sports andsocial activities as the same importance as classes and libraries. While somepeople claim that classes and libraries are more significant because they arethe foundation of students' academic performance. I hold the opposite side thatsports and social activities are the same importance as classes and libraries,when considering the benefits of students and universities.

Thefirst reason why I hold the opposite opinion is that sports and socialactivities plays a significant role on students' comprehensive qualities. Forthe first, sports and social activities benefit for students teamwork spirit.Because sports and social activities are usually collective activities, whichrequire students work together and cooperate with each other, in that case,they may learn the importance of solidarity and teamwork spirit which is thekey to defeat their opponents and win the game. For another, sports and socialactivities take a positive effect on their interpersonal relationship. Duringthe sports and social activities, they may get numerous friends and tutors, whomay be the advantage of their career development. While they show theirintelligence and ability on the playground and during the activities, the winthe friendship from their teammates and partner, who may assist them with theirproblems the may confront, what's more, their tutors in the activities mayteach them a lot about the society and give them advices about their futurelives.

Secondly,sports and social activities benefits for the universities' reputation. Theuniversities' reputation consists of academic reputation and social reputation,and the public may get the knowledge about universities mostly from the sportsand social activities, because they are lack the access to the research field.Public opinion are mostly depend on the award of the universities sports andsocial activities. Therefore, high reputation would be gained from their sportsand social activities.

Somepeople argue that classes and libraries are the foundation of students'academic performance. They do not recognize that students' would not haveenough energy and enthusiasm on their study and research without adequatesports and social activities. Thus, their opinions are totally unreliable.

Ina word, sports and social activities play a significant role on studentsdevelopment and universities reputation. More attention and financial supportshould be paid on universities' sports and social activities.
