Hello my friend. If Stanford asks that you write about something that happened in the last three years, then you NEED to follow their instructions; now, if you say that something happened 1-3 years ago, and it actually happened a longer time ago, then there is of course the adcom may or may not find out that you are lying. They do hire a background check firm, and they DO check the applications carefully. But they don’t always catch everything. One thing is for sure though, whether or not the events in your app actually happened within three years, tell Stanford in the essays that they did.
