谢谢翻译~不过如果真的是这样，我倒也还是存疑。
因为如果去掉to protect的话，那结果就是items of military equioment to protect了。
可是这样的话，to protect为什么会是非限制性修饰语？而且怎么就会修饰到items去了？莫非to do做定语也能跳跃指代核心词？

非限制性修饰语可以是同位语从句，主格结构，但是不定式不是作为非限制性修饰语，不能单独独立出来。偶也不知道是不是准确，希望语法NN现身解法

我同意你的这个说法。主要是我刚才没把句子列全，重新发个完整版Although the infinitive to protect would work if it were not preceded by a comma, it cannot act as a nonrestrictive adjectival phrase modifying items.

OG的意思好像是说“即是没有逗号，to do也不能当做一个非限定形容词短语修饰items”
既然没有逗号，怎么它还能是非限定性形容词短语，这是我想不通的。。。

我觉得to do表目的，不用逗号的话  for protecting好点吧
