Although aspirin has been proven to eliminate moderate fever associated with some illnesses, many doctors no longer routinely recommend its use for this purpose. A moderate fever stimulates the activity of the body's disease-fighting white blood cells and also inhibits the growth of many strains of disease-causing bacteria.

If the statements above are true, which of the following conclusions is most strongly supported by them?

正确答案: B

求助如何分析及最快解决该题

Although aspirin has been proven to eliminate moderate fever associated with some illnesses, many doctors no longer routinely recommend its use for this purpose. A moderate fever stimulates the activity of the body’s disease-fighting white blood cells and also inhibits the growth of many strains of disease-causing bacteria.

If the statements above are true, which of the following conclusions is most strongly supported by them?

(A) Aspirin, an effective painkiller, alleviates the pain and discomfort of many illnesses.

(B) Aspirin can prolong a patient’s illness by eliminating moderate fever helpful in fighting some diseases.

(C) Aspirin inhibits the growth of white blood cells, which are necessary for fighting some illnesses.

(D) The more white blood cells a patient’s body produces, the less severe the patient’s illness will be.

(E) The focus of modern medicine is on inhibiting the growth of disease-causing bacteria within the body.

看到答案后,觉得确实这样,但是有什么捷径解决该题。求助各位NN们。

Is choice B  the correct answer?

I don not think there exists shortcut to solve the reasoning question. You have to focus on the nuance between choices. Like this question, it is easy to select C as answer. However, C says that Aspirin inhibits the growth of white blood cells. You can not find this message in the passage. Therefore it is wrong.

i just don't understand why and from where "prolong a patient’s illness " comes .

However for choice C, apirin eliminates fever, and fever stimulates white cell , so Aspirin inhibits the growth of white blood cells.

That is why i chose C.

1. It is fever that functions white blood cells, not Aspirin. For instance, Aspirin doesnot affect the growth of white blood cells of a normal person without fever.

2.A patient' illness is probably delayed because of less active white blood cells caused by Aspirin' eliminating fever which will otherwise stimulate the activity of white blood cell.
