想请教有关状语从句的问题

记得以前上XDF时，老师说过状语从句中，从句主语=所修饰的句子的主语
请大家帮忙分析以下几个句子：

Although it had been partially destroyed, the archaeologists were able to infer from what remained of the inscription that the priest Zonainos was buried in the crypt.
但这里it不等于the archaeologists 啊

另外
Although it is just inside the orbit of Jupiter, amateur astronomers with good telescopes should be able to see the comet within the next few weeks.
这里it 也不等于amateur astronomers 啊

是不是我记错了啊，向大家赐教

我觉得只要不会指代混乱，好几个单数在句子里。IT不一定指代主句主语啊。。。。
个人意见。。。
