Pay attention to the main conclusion of the argument. In this case, the main conclusion (following the indicator "So") is:
The workers concluded that the company's real reason for laying them off is to fill their jobs with lower-paid workers.

However, if E is true, there will be NO hiring of lower-paid workers after the layoff since the data entry work will be done by CURRENT workers, not new hires. Thus, E) weakens the main conlcusion.
