New programs such as those at UCSD and UCR are like that: High rate of faculty and student turn overs; insufficient training in a general field. However, provided that professors have high reputation and keen envisions, the first year students usually can take a free ride to certain frontier of research (maybe not the main stream though). Still UCSD is a great university, and the academic tradition of a top university can hardly be imitated by other schools. Thus I am for the UCSD program, unless strong evidence proves otherwise. -- by 会员 cdplayer2 (2011/5/7 7:44:40)
I agree on the 'high reputation and keen envisions' part. ..But, what do you mean by 'High rate of faculty and student turn overs; insufficient training in a general field'? It might be true at other new programs, but you can't say that to UCR (perhaps UCSD either?), as UCR's program even hasn't started yet. |
