 Several industries have recently switched at least partly from older technologies powered by fossil fuels to new technologies powered by electricity. It is thus evident that less fossil fuel is being used as a result of the operations of these industries than would have been used if these industries had retained their older technologies.

答案选E完全没有问题，我当时自己选的是E，不过后来分析选项的时候，
发现（B）也可以起到削弱作用啊，使用新技术生产使用的fossile fuel比使用老技术使用的少，
而答案的解释：it does not matter how much fossil fuel was used to manufacture the older techonoogies originally. That has no bearing on whether more fossil fuel would have been expended as a result of the continued operation of the industries if the partial switch to newer techonologies had not occurred.

求NN解释，OG答案是什么意思以及为什么B不起削弱作用！

意思是，原文没有提到技术的作用是produce machinery，但是B选项把技术缩小到produce machinery，无关，是么？

也就是：
B的意思是：制造出新技术使用的机器，比制造老技术使用的机器用油少。
所以，这个选项跟问题——新技术是否比老技术更省油无关。

我同意楼上的。所以说，厂A生产new tec machinery, 厂B 废除旧tec，改用new tec。厂A生产new tec machinery用多少Fossil fuel 与厂B 是否用less fossil fuel 无关。

本来是很明白的，一想多了又绕了。。。
这种说法如果用到E上去，那生产electricity用到的fuel其实也跟这个厂没什么关系的。电也不是这个厂，而是电力公司来generate的呀。。。
好像有点钻牛角尖了。。。 但是求解答。。。求拖出。。。
