2nd AD@Columbia MAFN VS Oxford MFE，纠结求选校

我觉得挺水的吧：首先吧，课程设置就挺水的，一堆纯数学，里面的学生也抱怨根本用不上，不管是做research还是trading；另外呢，这个项目生存环境比较险恶：蜗居在数学系破楼的一个（仅有一个）小教室里，跟门外风生水起的MFE们大相径庭；最后呢，也是挺重要的：placement。 几个找到工作的去的都是二流行的trading，基本上都是法国人、美国人，做的也都是本科生就可以做的事情，感觉就是第一年找不到工作来这呆一年，增值不大但决心不小的。 所以啊，要想凭这个项目找到工作，个人感觉不太好；但当然，人牛是硬道理，也不在读哪个项目。

基本属实。。我还是表明，这年头读书能给你找到工作的，只有UCB,NYU，CMU和PRINCETON。。其他学校都不太可能。8成靠得都是以前的RETUEN INTERN和NETWORK。。。

而且好多人说这个好那个好都比较不切实际。。。LZ这不是在比较吗。。挑出来单说有个毛线用。。我也知道HAVARD好。。。但没进去啊。。如果就OX VS C。。。我觉得还是C好些。。起码我觉得OX的招生难度要小些

谢谢大侠建议。。哥大金融硕士有MFE 和这个MAFN，是不是前者比这个强好多额（弱问），employer会很看重这两个的差别不？

只要在一个学校里，就没有任何差别。MFE,MAFN,MSOR,STAT,APPLIED MATH如果以学校给你的帮助来看，根本是一回事。雇主不会那么2B会觉得这个PROGRAM的学生强那个比较弱。MFE的学生实习经验应该会丰富些，因为是IEOR DEPT。所以找起工作来是以前的W/E帮了他们。并不是学校帮了他们多少。

Companies know which program has best student quality within school, especially for CU (probably not for a school in the mid of nowhere).  The relationship between program and company is very important for career oriented MFE. That's why CMU/UCB can almost guarantee  placement while school itself is not the best. From this point, MFE@CU has advantage. But since MFE@CU is also not doing very well compared with other top tier programs, The difference is not that obvious.


The biggest problem of MAFN is the 1 year length. Internship is very critical to non-US student with no previous working experience.

Well, that might be the case for your company, but not the case for my previous company, which is a major european bank. My supervisors are from europe and they only know ivy schools and certain top states schools..of course they would consult with local ppl for "which schools is better"...but when I asked the differences among programs....they said none....they only look for...1 Brand name  2 work experience 3 english/any other 2nd language

The quality of the program??they don't care much as s/t is not research oriented....if you know how to apply the theories...that is it....that's why many party school students are strong in IB...they have super strong communication skills...which can be the only thing matters

If you want to do quant stuff, Columbia is better. If you prefer general finance (Banking, Equity Research), Oxford is better. C has better reputation in HK but O is definitely a brighter brand in mainland.

I don't think it's "definitely"...C looks better than O in mainland china.....that is for sure...

But in the states, O could be better than C as fewer ppl come from O and americans always want to trace their roots...lol

I don't think C looks better in mainland since most Chinese still see Oxcam + HYPS as elite school. Columbia is also top level but too many Columbia masters went back to China these years. But i admit "definitely" is a bit too strong.


In US/HK, everyone on street know how Oxcam performs in business education. Undergrad or PhD in Science may be possible to break in. Master students don't have good chance (Why IB hire people from UK when there are tons of MFE programs in US?)

不光是综排啊，也是历史积淀以及文化烙印啊
恕我小市民了，即便英国再水，在国内普通人眼里，牛剑就是神一般的存在，若是进额，绝对是光宗耀祖的事啊。
毕竟我们中的大多数将来总有一天会回国发展的，牛剑的烙印会让你受益终生。
