I'm wondering why all you guys are eager to come to US. Do you want to stay there or have a MBA and go back to china. Either way you need a decent program and of course high GPA and GMAT.

If your targets are only some small name colleges, take my advice, save ur money and time. Even you can get citizenship, you probably end up washing dishes or deliver pizza all the rest of your life. When you spend most of your savings, and perhaps part of your parents, if not most, and find out what you will get, you will probably be very frustrated. Every year, I see many students come and many students go back. I doubt if the experience there can give them any edge in china. Unless you are ultra rich or the school offers your full scholarship, the experience can only make your life harder. One of my classmates went back to china and is working for PG and she told me she need to work 20 years to earn the tuition fees back.

Some one questions my experience there helps my score. Yes, I agree. But as I said, I had little time to review. What's worse, when i first picked it up, i forgot all the fomulas and gramma points. You will think it funny, I know how to analyze complex statistics reports but forgot -b+-sqrt(b^2-4ac)/2a. Though it is lower than my expectation, I can say I did it, AGAIN. 5 years ago, like most of you, i had never been aboard, I got 700+ too, 1st time test.

因为在美国生活了一些年头，谈点自己的看法
首先，zero_120你是一个学生，站在学堂的角度看来美学习的问题，你的告诫与担心都是对的，建议也很中肯，并且也恭喜你G考了你想要的分数，英语学好真的有利无弊，但你的眼光与告诫仅限于学堂的角度。我也看了很多来来往往的学子，鉴于在美的时间长，怕是比你的还要多，这之中有英语好的也有英语不好来了要学语言的，但是，只要来了努力的，毕业还是没问题的。
毕业了，工作，由于近几年美国的经济形势不容乐观，所以拿工作的offer不如预想的好，但是，我身边的，只要坚持了的，也都工作的不错，大不了，PHD甚至破四刀嘛，再大不了回国呗，但是，回去时，由于你在国外的生活经历和磨练，相信找工作会比呆在国内几年眼光有一个提升
对于在美的华人人群，F1其实只是一个部分，持各种签证，通过各种途径来美的甚至偷渡的，在一些年头的努力后，混的好的大有人在，你要知道，美国是一个移民国家，移民的当然不只是留下来的学生。这些混得好与不好的，英语考试能力并不是取决于他们人生真正快乐或成功的标杆
看问题，其实眼光不要只局限于自身目前所处的角色，否则，就失去了留学的意义
另外，要学会寻找快乐，否则太累不是么

I am not angry at any one there, but try to tell you the truth there. I see how the universities rap money from Chinese these years. I just talked with a friend from UMD. She told me in her program, MSF, there are 65 students, 62 of are chinese. And the universities there will not treat you same as they treat their american students. Because whether you can find a job and how much you get paid are not matter with their ranks. They will work their butts off to help their US students get great jobs and give them references, but they wont do same to you. They will give you reference, if you ask, but not a strong one. As I know, some universities refuse to issue CPT to chinese students. I believe to some extent they want to prevent chinese from competing from american.

To sdcar2010, i can't see your points. I don't see your woman friend got any advantages from her MBA experience. If she was excellent when graduated and got great references from great professors, she should have had a decent job in US. I can't see how a US professor can give reference to japan. And why she went back to japan? If she stayed in US, what she could do? Work in the area of international trade? 代购 is in the area of international trade. In CA, NY, there are hundreds if not thousands of companies in the area of international trade. Can you provide the name of her company and her salary range?

if you read my post, you should know I AM WORKING. It is my second year of H1b and my company is preparing my perm application. and I said if we chinese want to succeed there, we need a high GPA, not only graduate. Phds, post do not guarantee a good job. My statistics professor, I guess 60+, has to teach in classroom all the day, 5 days a week, earning only 30k. Even pizza deliverers earn more than him. I didn't see illegal immigrants good careers too. Most of them work in restaurant or as deliver men. All they do is raising children in US and when their children get 18, the children apply GC for them. The only cases I know illegal immigrants lead a good life there is gangsters. In LA, in flushing, they collect protection fees from chinese, run illegal casino for illegal chinese, and kidnap and rap chinese. If you have gone to flushing, you should know what the first generation immigrants look like.

Maybe people differ from people.

Hehe. It all comes to down to the definition of success. In LZ's mind, working in US, earning a salary as high as one's American classmate, obtaining a green card, speaking perfect English, etc., are tokens of success.

My lady friend, having lived in Japan for over a decade, speaking perfect Japanese,  remarried to a Japanese gentleman who speak not-so-perfect Chinese, and decided to live and work in Japan. Her definition of success is quite different from yours. If one works through adversity, improves oneself, sets up own best personal record, that is a success. To her, if one only tries to do something when all readings say it will work, that action is surely a boring failure.

"don't play word game. B school, especially MBA = money worship. I don't know anyone attending b-school not for money. IB is the ideal job the b-school students, then big consulting companies, big4, fortune 500..... If that's ur philosophy, go science & art school, or religion school."

I totally agree Sdacar. LZ can you copy what you said about your opinion of MBA to you PS ? haha...If you really think it, why don't you use it for your essay? Then tell us which top school you will get admission.

It seems like LZ triggered a public debate. I felt part of his words are correct. I know a lot of American man who think Chinese girls are easy to get. I have seen a lot of Chinese girls very confident about getting an American guy to marry them. However, in the end they get hurt. I observed a lot of couples that the man is  white and the woman is  Chinese. Most of the guy's social status are pretty low- blue collar workers. especially when the economy of US went downwards. A lot of  low lever American men or divorced men start to seek a Chinese girl-mainly Chinese female students.  when I talk to them. They are telling me they know most of the girls want to stay in America and these girls are like an investment-potential gain. And nowadays Chinese have money because China become a biggest creditor of US. To me, they are trying to take advantage of Chinese girls. Most American man with high social status still like blonds. And interestingly, having a blond, blue-eyed white girl- Americans call Trophy Wife is most western guys dream.

I know I will get attacked by some people here. I just state the facts. One of my friend-a Chinese girl who has CPA, work for big 4. husband is  Caucasian and jobless. Maybe love can conquer all the difficulties.

上次考是5年前了，当时cd上大家目标都是保700争750，数学基本藐视，不是满分基本就不好意思说了。现在回来看看，怎么会还有人600分都那么费尽，还有人把目标定550。同学们，你们考那么点分来北美有什么资本鄙视脑残的台湾人和韩国人。

还有就是现在的人越来越依靠jj。gmat这么容易你们都靠不过，你们过来怎么听课，写论文什么的。老衲觉得英语够差的了，full time work, take two night classes every week,每周末还有一天 volunteer， 零零散散复习加起来也就1个月左右吧，中间因为约不上时间还停了1个多月，只是最后快考试的2周才又突击的看看，最后一周把课跳了，volunteer继续干，而且主要看得还是作文。只做了og，gwd没做，大全作了一半觉得没用就没做。最后用prep摸考了一下780就完了，看你们复习起来真费尽。给你们点建议，og足以，大全题都是旧的，就我这次经验来看，gmat的思路已经变了，很多以前认为对的现在认为错了，vice verse，做大全太misleading。其他复习资料也是没什么用，什么买哈顿了新东方了都没什么用，上面写的都是最基本的，gmat上的要比那上面活很多，语法评细心注意细节，阅读和逻辑评能力。老衲也不用什么阅读方法，就是开始整篇读完再一道一道做题，平时多读点文章多背点单词不用什么技巧照样可以。所有所谓的技巧都是有risk的，如果做完题你都不知道他说的什么，你不觉得很可怕么。

考试从11点到3点，中间没吃饭，最后出来的时候都低血糖，要不verbal 也不会错这么多，题也没记几个。考完数学就觉得开始头晕，吃了点带去的subway，不过没什么作用，刚开始看verbal第一题就发懵，不过感觉前10题也太难了，语法没有几道拿得准。感觉数学都不难，但比较tricky,尤其是ds,看着很简单，但那个很可能不是的条件最后都是答案
