smart这个东西有时候挺虚的，可能主要还是big guy喜欢他和他的topic吧。他dissertation的topic也是mit的大爱，他当年是没达到mit还是拿到mit但最后选了chicago？

This guy is super smart， managed to work with Kothari while in PhD program and his dissertation fits well with Chicago style.

jingzhimeng给说说chicago那个valeri的情况呗，我眼拙，没看出来为啥他能到chicago当faculty。

I don't know the details. I think he got both job offers but chose Chicago eventually. He is currently working on contracting issues (one of his working papers). Chicago is the obvious fit, although MIT is fantastic, too. He has good insights about accounting research and knows how to sell his paper. Moreover, he is close to Ray Ball, Kothari and Easton. All things together, you can figure~
