UA
pros: Booming economy, Local reputation, comparatively higher salary, Low tax area. Americanized place (or cons?).
Cons: Long winter, heavy snow, rising living cost(higher than Toronto), not really livable, oil-oriented business atmosphere(Canadian call them Northen Texas, just think it as a much colder Texas, they do have cowboys)
Not too much amenities.
Overall, UA definitely has a higher local competitiveness compared to RPI thanks to Alberta's economy, shoudn't be too hard to find a job within province, not a perfect place to start a family and rise kids. But overall, even Calgary(most unlivable city ranked by Canadian) ranked as top 10 livable cities in the world, way leading all US cities.
Disclaimer: Working in Toronto, been there several times.
