CMU MSCF internship update(2011.3.29)

The below stats seem satisfying, but unfortunately, so far two students have quit the program. Well, u could imagine how tough MSCF is.Good news is that incoming students will have free access to summer math and programming preparatory classes this year, which definitely will help you quickly blend in the MSCF program!

So far there are 80 offers in total and 70.27% of us got an offer/offers. About 55% are S&T, 35% are quant and the remaining 10% are risk mgt and EQ research.

Earlier this week, the class of 2010, i.e. the class one year above me, achieved amazing 97% (full time jobs, of course)

Maximum offer: $11,178/month
Minimum offer: $3,900/month
Median offer: $7,700/month
Mean offer: $7,300/month

Among all the offers, 8@HK, 1@SG, 2@London, 2@Tokyo and the rest all @US.
Besides salary, most of us got relocation fees and free accommodation(HK)/subsidiary(NY/London).  

Chinese are doing pretty well, but unfortunately I don't have the exactly number here.

In terms of how do we get internships, we can either rely on Tepper Career Opportunity Center or apply to banks by our own.


Internship duration varies among banks and locations but in general, summer internship begins in middle June and ends in late August, lasting 10 weeks.

For sure Tepper Career Opportunity Center will help us get jobs. They helped review and modify CVs/cover letters, conduct mock interviews and hold alumni events. Every and each of MBA/MSCF will be assigned to a personal career consultant. They also update us job information and offer statistics on a weekly basis.

We have an online application system called Simplicity, through which we can drop our CVs/Cover letters. Generally, firms posting internships through Simplicity treat CMU and Tepper MBA/MSCF in particular as target.

On the other hand, students are free to make their own network and do their own job research.
