Jobs and Career ManagementThe program aims to train students for analytical jobs with potential employers such as investment and commercial banks, asset management companies, consulting firms, and policy-oriented organizations. The Master of Science in Financial Economics degree is designed for students who wish to pursue a more analytical and focused course of study in finance than that offered by Columbia Business School’s MBA Program, but who also prefer a shorter and more industry-oriented experience than the School’s Doctoral rogram. Applicants who may also be considering MBA or PhD programs are encouraged to carefully review the academic differentials between the offerings to better understand the nature of preparation for post-program opportunities. The Career Management Center (CMC) at Columbia Business School works with students to help them build lifelong career management skills. Students of the Master of Science programs will have access to targeted job search resources of the CMC but will not be included in MBA recruiting schedules. Students in the Master of Science programs have employment profiles, skills, and career trajectories which differ significantly from students in other programs at the School. Consequently, the CMC provides resources specifically tailored to the experience and needs of Master of Science students, including:
Training in recruiting fundamentals: résumé and cover letter assistance, career coaching, and mock interviews.
Job listing resources appropriate for the degree program profile.
Access to customized resources in Columbia Business School’s online recruiting system.
