请教各位前辈 GMATprep上的一道数学题

if "a" is a positive integer, and if the units digit of a^2 is9, and the units digit of (a+1)^2 is 4.
what is the units digit of (a+2)^2?

答案是1。

弱弱的请问，unie digit 是不是个位数字的意思?

答案解释如下:
if units digit of a^2 is 9, then a is ending with either 3 or 7, which means 3 or 7 is the unit digit of a.
然后答案，假设a=3和a=7两种情况，代入后面（a+1)^2=4来验证，发现a=3不成立。

请问，既然3或者7只是a的个位数字，那么怎么能直接代入后面的公式验算呢？

求各位高人赐教，不胜感激!

unit digit 是个位数字，因为题干问个位数字变化，影响它的只有底数的个位，所以只讨论个位，而个位平方后穷举发现有规律，代入验算即可
