我觉得应该缺are表示被动。即：which they are liken to putting....they指代major works of art.当然实际上they应该指代technique.

这里的,由于contend后面有that引导宾语从句,所以"逗号likening"应该是分词修饰that后面的成分,所以其发出这不应该是many others

但若说是分词表伴随,又觉得奇怪

因为分词表伴随有两种情况,一种是伴随动作,这是分词应该与逗号前面主句谓语动词同时发生,这里degrade和liken同时发生显然逻辑不合理

若说伴随结果,也是不合理

而like sth to sth是固定搭配把...比喻成什么

所以我认为likening这里分词修饰的是前面整句the technique degrades major works of art
