PhD without strong math background

Hi Hi,

I plan to do PhD in accounting in US but I do not have a strong math background. Will it affect much of my application?

I got 50th in Math in GMAT. Does it compensate for not taking advanced math class?

I only took business statistics, applied calculus, and colleage algebra in my bachelor degree. In master degree ..... I did not take math class because I took MAcc.

I have a master of accountancy in Hong Kong and am an ACCA, so I want to do PhD in accounting. It is so scary that many math major and science majors come to compete for accounting PhD......

The math and stat requirements for application and doing research are quite different. In terms of doing accounting research, the math and stat requirements are very low if you do not want to focus on analytical work, although some schools require students to take some graduate level analysis, stats, and probability courses, while in terms of application, it is another story, especially for chinese applicants, let's put it this way, when you purchase a product, ceteris paribus, do you want to purchase a product with more features or less?

strong background!  I wish I could have as strong as yours.

My math background is weaker than yours.  I'm worried too.  But luckily I don't have to compete in finance.  I apply for entrepreneurship.

retake your gmat first, math 50 is ok, although not high, verbal 32 is too low. Target school in top 20-50. If you can get a strong letter from TJ Wong, you may have chance at top20 school.
