这个问题，depends on towhat extent the standards are redefined.
如果新的standard和原有standard差异很大的话，一个企业应该去跟着standard变化而变化。因为目前人们关注环保的意识已经越来越强了，他们更加倾向于购买环保产品。For example, the marketing performance of many refrigeratorscontaining Fluorine goes down soon after the research result that the Fluorinewill damage the ozone layer is released. People now prefer the refrigeratorswhich save electricity to save the limited energy of the earth. 如果一个企业can’t catch up with the most recent theories and trend ofenvironmental protection, it is likely that it will lose a huge market sharedue to their bad image of “not taking social and environmental responsibilities”.
但是我认为，有时候科学研究的结论并没有发生实质的变化，这种情况下就没有必要随时随地梗着理论研究结论而变化。一个企业也要有自己的行为准则。一个企业也像人一样，应该有自己的判断标准和行为依据。科学家的研究结果可以作为参考，但是最终做决定的依然是企业的管理者。所以说管理者对于环保标准的定义应该比科学家对环保标准的定义更重要。
所以对于这个问题，我觉得一个企业的management应该首先set up a corporate social and environmental goal in protecting theearth, and then analyze the current trend and main direction in theenvironmental barriers of its industry. They should try their best to reducethe negative influences to the largest extent as they may achieve, so when thenew benchmark appears, they may already meet the criteria. But if they do comeacross some new environmental challenges, they should consider the new benchmarkcarefully and focus on how to meet the new requirements.

我的一点comments：这里的stardard：企业应该看这个stardard的实质，以及跟自己企业的相关性然后去决定，如果跟自己的企业的相关性大，那为了企业着想应该去keep shifting。可能要比stardard新旧差异大小要好点。
