P.S. 我觉得whereas就是引导状从，形式上不用完全对等，尽量就行。

关于whereas 的困惑，这个不矛盾吗？
一种说法：

whereas表示对比关系前后句子在形式上不需要完全对等, 例如：In cooking, small quantities of spices are used, whereas in medicinal usage spices are taken in large quantities in order to treat particular maladies。

另一种说法：

Whereas 是连词，表示 然而，鉴于，反之，表比较。看到是比较,就应该考虑比较对象要对等。例如：Whereas the honeybee’s stinger is heavily barbed and cannot be retracted from the skin, the yellow jacket’s stinger is comparatively smooth, and can therefore be pulled out and used again.

问：这两种说法矛盾吗？到底应该怎样使用whereas   ??? 求解？

是的，只要是比较，比较对象就必须对等，一般比较都会用平行结构表示，不仅比较对象对等，前后句子的形式也会对等，是为平行结构；

但whereas比较特殊，比较对象必须对等，但句子形式不一定严格一致，但也是平行，OG12-136例句
whereas in mammals the tiny tubes that convey nutrients to bone cells are arrayed in parallel lines, in birds the tubes form a randon pattern.

比较的都是tubes，比较对象对等，前后两个句子结构上并未完全一致，没有严格平行




WhereasX,Y
whereas作为连词引导句子，X和Y不要求绝对平行，但是the more parallel they are,the better the sentence is

是的，只要是比较，比较对象就必须对等，一般比较都会用平行结构表示，不仅比较对象对等，前后句子的形式也会对等，是为平行结构；

但whereas比较特殊，比较对象必须对等，但句子形式不一定严格一致，但也是平行，OG12-136例句
