Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Telephone has greater influence on people's lives than television has.

The influences that television and telephone have on our daily life are undeniable. Some people think that the television has greater influence on people’s lives than telephone state that television has given us more chances to get comprehensive information all around the world, while those who hold the opposite point of view believe that telephone has changed the way people communicate virtually and improved relationships between people to some degree. It is hard to say which standpoint is wrong, but personally, I side with the latter for the following reasons.

It is true that television is a wonderful innovation which has offered people a more richlycolorful way to transmit and gain information. Just sit on a couch, hold a remote control, then you can choose a favorite program which is showing the latest news to tell you what are happening in the world or showing NBA playoff games to relax you. But on the other hand, television may sometimes convey stereotypes or inappropriate messages which do harm to people’s perspectives. Therefore, only people take measure to deal with the disharmonious contents can we say television really has great influence on people’s lives.

However, the most important influence which telephone has brought to us is the convenient way to contact with each other. In the ancient society, such as the Warring States Period of China, the troops had no effective communication tools so that it was very hard for generals to do information analysis and make reasonable decisions which would even lead up to the defeat. Even nowadays, take me myself for example; my family is more than 2000 kilometers far away from my college. When I am willing to talk with my parents, I can simply use my phone without any hesitate. But, if such a useful tool does not exist, I could only send mails to them which would take a long time.

Furthermore, telephone improves people’s relationships. On one hand, ** a call to your friends and sending massages to them are the best methods to maintain friendship. You can just say hello once in a while to prevent alienation. On the other hand, if you hurt your friend unintentionally and you think it is very awkward for you to apologize to him/her face to face, you can make a call or send a message to beg forgiveness.

Taking into account all these reasons above, we could safely come to the conclusion that telephone has greater influence than television, although both of them have profound influences on people’s lives.
