       With the development of science andtechnology, high-tech products have become more and more important in our dailylives and we can not ignore the destructive influence these products bring tous. As we all know, people can hardly live without television which appears inall our leisure time. Some people use television to educate, and others use itjust for fun. As far as i am concerned, the major purpose of television is toeducate, not to entertain. My positions are based on the deep and fundamentalanalysis as discussed below.
       In the first place, television teaches us much knowledge. There are somany channels that we
can choose the subject we are interested inor something related to the major in our college to watch. The various programsand diverse contents in television are certainly the best way for us to acquiredifferent knowledge. Firstly, for students like us, we can watch CCTV nine orany other international channels to learn english, such as practice ourlistening, understand foreign cultures, imitate their pronunciation.Furthermore, for people who are interested in stocks, they can obtain muchinformation about economy situation and learn lots of techniques to increasetheir profits. What is more, there are channels about science and technology,education, culture, history, and so on for all people to enrich their sights.For instance, my cousin is always fasinated by the wild animals and cuteorganisms so she often watch the programs about biology district. The vivid andworthy contents teach her a lot and she is satisfied with the results that shecan accumulate much knowledge that she can not learn at school. Due to thishobby, she gains several prizes in her high school and enters an outstandingcollege. So we can see, television educate all the people from differentaspects
       In the second place, television brings people new experiences. Peoplecan travel around the world without going outside through many travelingprograms. They can watch historical sites, amazing views and even some placewhich is almost disappear like Maldives
.In addition, people can watch tv first and then decide where to go, thus theywill know where they want to visit most. Besides, people can cultivate theircapability of solving problems through TV. As the old saying goes, the thingsyou see more, the more you can do. All the below reasons demonstrate thattelevision mainly educate people.        
       Nevertheless, television also brings lots of entertainment to people. After a busy day, people gethome and relax. In their spare time, most people watch soap opera or movies toenjoy themselves and prepare a clear mind for tomorrow's efficiency work. Theentertain programs really have the function that make people balance their workand their lives.
       In conclusion,in my opinion, the major purpose of television is to educate, not to entertain.Whatever the program is, lecture or cartoon, it must have the meaning ofeducation and it exactly teaches people a lot. Use the television properly, wecan make our lives better and better.
