如果在香港被Check，当天可以拿回护照吗？

I am planing to go to Hong kong to renew my H-1B visa, so wanted to know if anyone has experienced this before ? I am so worried if I get checked, I couldn't get my passport back and have to stay in Hong Kong to wait for couple weeks ? Does anyone know if I can get my passport back at the same day if I get checked ? It is very Urgent! Million thanks in advance !
