。。 In the listening material, the speaker believes that the vertical stripes cannot serve as a protection for zebras. While the author of the reading material insists that the black and white stripes can help zebras get rid of their predators. The listening part, unquestionably, casts doubt on the reading part.
In the first place, admitting that the vertical stripes illusion the predators, the speaker contends that such illusion is useless. Claiming that the major predators of zebras, such as lions, usually are not dependent on their first sight of their prey, the speaker tries to convince us that the stripes are meaningless. On the contrary, the author of the reading part holds that the stripes, causing predators fail to measure the distance, are helpful in preventing zebras from being eaten.
In the second place, the speaker asserts that the predators, rather than depend on their eyes, usually use smell when preying. Therefore, whether the zebras appear to be a large striped mass does not make any sense. However, this assertion is contradicted by what is shown in the reading material. The author argues that the since predators cannot pick out and individual zebra, they are unlikely to make any attack.
In the third place, citing that zebras usually prefer stand in an open ground than stay in tall grass, the speaker argues that the stripes cannot keep the zebras away from lions or other predators. Conversely, the reading section believes that due to the vertical stripes, the zebras are invisible in tall grass, thus enabling them to get rid of potential risks.
In conclusion, the listening material jeopardizes the reading material. The speaker and the author fail to draw a consensus over this issue. |
