我看AMA每年统计的A journal requirements原来最早是六个(那四个+JR,IJRM)后来把后俩去掉,只剩前四个了。这个估计还是比较公认的。不过我确实很少读到JM的paper,感觉其的确偏重managerial,作为Academia大多还是读JMR、JCR,MktS略多于MgtS。MgtS当然是非常好的journal,但就像Econmetrica、AER一样,不怎么算marketing A journal。
For top20, even for all the top 30, JM is not regarded as A journal. Management Science definitely is A journal.
Peter Golder(just transfers to Tuck from Stern) is a strategy guy and you can see some of his publication from Marketing Science and JMR, and one of his Ph.D students who also works some projects on strategy will graduate this year with a top journal paper published.
This is very different from what I learnt. At least in our university(Ranking around 30), JM is the main stream mktg journal, so any research field with good managerial implications might get in. However, JCR, JMR and MKTGS all have specialities. Therefore JM is the No. 1 in MKTG.
