我无意冒犯你哦
phd申请本来就是很难说的 因为录取比率太低了 如果你撒的网足够大(比如申了20所),或许还能有些规律
如果你就申3所左右的学校 那么实力之外运气啊什么的就也有影响乐
good luck on your GMAT

if you are good at spoken English, pass the CPA, and get a higher GMAT, your chances could be a little greater at teaching schools.

so what will make sense

Actually i had talked with the PHD advisor of my current university and some other universities, but they didn't tell me what would realy make sense during the application.  so i am really confused right now.

If I don't have any research experience before, then how can I approve that I have the potential ability in the research?! Using the personal statement or essays?

BTW, my work experience is in the world famous company though.

thanks so much!

hope the following questions could bring some sense...

how many applicants do you think have a GPA of 3.9+?
how many applicants do you think have a GMAT of 750+, particularly Chinese?
how many applicants do you think have work experiences in world famous companies, particularly Americans?
how many applicants do you think have worked with professors in some sort of accounting research?
how many applicants do you think have strong recommendations from top or at least known professors in the field?

I don’t know what kind of work experience you have, but several of my professors worked as mangers or partners in big four before they entered phd programs. In my humble opinion, your work experience may not help as much as you thought.

If I were you, I would retake GMAT, seek some opportunities to work with faculty on research projects and read scholarly articles to gain some insights about research.

i agree with dandanapple

talk to your professors and ask for some research opportunities. The participation in research may not demonstrate your research ability/potential since you'll be doing really basic stuff, but it can at least give you some sense. Also you can show the adcom that you are preparing for the phd program

Work experience is a plus, but a lot of applicants have w/e, so only w/e can not make you stand out

depressed

I think that my spoken english is good after more than one year living in USA, and I almost past the exams of AICPA.

After the discussion here and check the backgroud of the current PHD students, I understand that you guys are right, maybe my chance for sucessful application will be only little, and I am so depressed, but I just wanna try it, otherwise I will regret forever, since I came to USA for the dreaming of becoming a professor in the future.

Anyway, I really appreciate the suggestions from you guys.

Another thought

BTW, if I can't gain the offer from top 30 schools, I may abandon the PHD study, since I am a little old, and i think that the PHD in a university after top 30 won't be very valuable for becoming a professor anyhow, i mean, if i am not so interested in the PHD in a just normal university. And I think that i may find a good job based on my current backgroud.

If becoming a professor is your career goal rather than some random thought, you should not give up easily. Despite the fact that most active professors work at top 30 schools, some less prestigious schools also have good faculties.

I am really excited at the thought that one day I could work with people I admire and interact with intelligent minds. The dream is worth all my effort.

though the realities may sometimes suggest the otherwise, graduating from a top program or being placed in a top school is not the very necessary condition for becoming a good professor...
