At many schools, these PhD applicants get an MBA halfway through their education. The difference is your PhD is paid for by the school; the MBA isn't. But if as a PhD student you get an MBA, they are more flexible about costs.
But PhD programmes are indeed tougher to get into. I have friends at Booth who tell me that they accept 1-2 students per major per year, a total of 20 PhD students in all.
If you wanted a PhD, then apply for a PhD, not an MBA. It'll save you time and money. |
