Plantings of cotton bioengineered to produce its own insecticide against bollworms, a major cause of crop failure, sustained little bollworm damage until this year.  This year the plantings are being seriously damaged by bollworms.  Bollworms, however, are not necessarily developing resistance to the cotton’s insecticide.  Bollworms breed on corn, and last year more corn than usual was planted throughout cotton-growing regions.  So it is likely that the cotton is simply being overwhelmed by corn-bred bollworms.

建议还是先搞懂阅读 不然再简单的逻辑 看不懂题目也是白搭

er,U should figure out there are two kinds of planting of cotton: can produce its own insecticide against bollworms  / cannot produce

premise1lantings of cotton(can produce its own insecticide against bollworms) sustained little bollworm damage until this year.  This year the plantings are being seriously damaged by bollworms.

premise2: Bollworms, however, are not necessarily developing resistance to the cotton’s insecticide.
premise3: Bollworms breed on corn, and last year more corn than usual was planted throughout cotton-growing regions.
conclusion:  So it is likely that the cotton is simply being overwhelmed by corn-bred bollworms.

premise简单说就是 the planting of cotton 今年受bollworms影响很厉害。但是bollworm并没有完全形成对insecticide的抵抗力。同时corn今年种植特别多,导致靠C生长的B也很多。

B:不能形成insecticide的planting of cotton有没有因为Bollworm遭灾
I will go with B :B clearly establishes that it is not just the resistant cotton that are getting affected, and  supports the overwhelm theory.

the conclusion talks about COTTON in general, whereas argument only accounted for planting(bio...can produce insecticide)therefore, we must know something about non-bio one(cannot produce) to evaluate the conclusion. B does that.

出去吃了个饭回来突然开窍了,说下我的理解

经过基因改造的棉花自身能产生一种杀虫剂来对抗棉铃虫,所以这种棉花一种都受很低程度的害虫伤害。
This year the plantings are being seriously damaged by bollworms.
但是今年悲剧了。
Bollworms, however, are not necessarily developing resistance to the cotton’s insecticide.
究其原因呢,不一定是棉铃虫对杀虫剂免疫了。
Bollworms breed on corn, and last year more corn than usual was planted throughout cotton-growing regions.
(那应该是什么原因呢?)棉铃虫以谷物为食,而去年人们在种棉花的地方种了很多很多谷物。(隐含意思是:吃的东西多了,棉铃虫也就多了)
So it is likely that the cotton is simply being overwhelmed by corn-bred bollworms.
所以很有可能是太多太多棉铃虫了,完全淹没了棉花。(感觉有点类似遭受蝗灾~)



理解的题目相信就很好选择了~A\C\D\E基本都可以无关排除掉了,我们可以试着回答一下B:
如果答案是yes,那么很明显,大面积的棉铃虫确实有可能是原因,因为本来就没有抗虫能力的棉花也遭受了比以往更大的损失;
如果答案是no,那就说明不是棉铃虫太多的问题。
