Dear all. What do you think is the most important thing of Darden that interested you when you apply? That is to say, what is the most distinguished aspect of Darden from other Top B schools. Thanks.

1. Small city, you must enjoy quiet country life.  I want to escape from big cities, thus I love Darden.

2. Small Chinese/international team, thus you have to "fit in" US student body, wich could be really tough.

3. Case, sure, case.  It is hard to describe before you  experience it yourself.

But yes, all the top programs are great.  it is a matter of fit or not.

The case study method would be more attractive to me. I hope to interact with people as much as possible when I am in US. We maybe speak very fluent English in China but it's still different when you compete native speakers in class.  I am now attending some career training course in Darden. I am an extrovert person and did a lot of presentations in my previous work. However, I am still not that confident to speak out in these two days especially when you hear natives speak scary fast and when they talked some jokes that we dont understand. It takes time and Case study will definitely help on this.

Secondly, the people I've met from Darden are very nice. The program is small yet I saw the China Alumni are very cohesive. "People" is also a reason I jsut heard from my classmate sitting next to me why he turned down another offer from a top b school.

However, personally, personally, i dont like small cities.... but Charlottesville is very beautiful.. I met a Chinese supermarket boss here and he told me he's been living in over 20 states in the US and finally he chose Charlottesville as the final stop.

Hope it helps.

I do not know who is doing IBD @ Boston.

Maybe driftysnail. can share more details.

We do have three more Chinese, who already spend several years in the US. they are neither ABC nor mainland China students.

Sure, the one who is doing IBD @ Boston has been in the States for a long time.  Guess around 8 years or more.  maybe not Chinese passport.

gonna apply Darden this year...。。

Guys, just being curious, I got 2 questions.

1) I will ask recommendation from our managing director who actually holds MBA degree from Darden.  Will his recommendation increase my chances of getting admitted?

2) Which round did you guys, as successful applicants apply? Round 1 or 2.  I am probably only able to  ready my package after deadline of round 1...

1) I believe it definitely helps but make sure he/she knows you well.

2) I was in Round 2. we have 8 people from mainland this year and 3 was admitted in first round, 5 was admitted in second round - This may not be reflective because we don't know how many admits declined Darden in each round. Apart from the 8 mainland students, I know 2 people declined Darden in second round and there is another 1 who will defer her offer to next year.

As compared with other business schools by numbers only, Darden actually recruited more Chinese students than it did last year.

Hi, I am a Darden FY student with working backgrounds in both engineering and management consulting.

I actually discussed about the similar question with my interviewer during the Darden alumni interview last year. We both agreed that building strong and lasting bonds between classmates/alumni is one thing you can expect from Darden.

I am also attracted to Darden's 100% case method, although we FY students haven't started the offical class learning so far. In my opinion, case method will always challenge your comfort zone and push you to reach your limit (especially for international students). That is a very effective way to achieve quality improvement. Also, Darden's intensive learning environment makes the graduates very practical and hard working. Those two characteristics distinguish Darden MBAs from those of many other US B-schools.
