Here 'with meat a varity' is called     独立主格。 --- with + Noun + Noun

tianwan

独立主格结构：n+n,n+adj,n+adv,n+preposition,n+infinitive,n+ing,n+ed


除了n+ing, 其它的独立主格结构ETS偏向语with+独立主格结构


D也是独立主格结构，但是ETS认为D是错的。

A错，X, Y, and Z, 后面还有and就不能是并列了，只能是一个完整的句子，但是A不是句子，错


B错，B虽然是句子，但是代表一个独立的句子，说肉是稀罕的，和前面无任何关联，改变句子意思了


C错，meat    不能是 rare，名词和形容词无法对等


D错，此处明显是一个紧密连接型独立主格结构，因为with后内容和主句必须非常紧密联系，因此with是必须的。没有with读起来莫名其妙

我认为snazzy和tianwan的看法比较正确，这里with结构引导的是独立主格with+n+prep，E中的as作为介词，解释为：作为；rarity －名词，解释为：稀有之物

个人认为E中的as可以省略，形成snazzy所谓的with+n+n的独立主格结构，但是保留对句意的清楚表达更好；同时需要指出，as作为介词，所以后面不能跟形容词，所以C表达错，而且C中的rare意思复杂，容易引起歧义；

第一次听说这个名词。能不能请你给个定义？是不是说紧密连接型独立主格的内容必须和主句内容联系紧密且必须由with开头？那么n.+n.型的独立主格呢？

我觉得这道题D和E都是独立主格结构，但是因为中间有长长的一串插入语，把主句与独立主格远远地分开了，所以加上with是为了明确meat as a rarity在句中的作用——独立主格，以避免读者将其理解为插入语的并列成分。如果把插入语删去的话，D 和E都应该是对的。

这里的独立主格是对主句的修饰和补充，而不是对vegetarian的说明。

所以，用独立主格的话，就必须用WITH＋。。 否则就容易产生修饰对象的混淆。
