Now it is generally accepted that no knowledge or college can give all the knowledge to its students by the time they graduate. Since the production-line was invented in 1913, the society began to change. People didn’t need to spend a long time learning the whole process from the very beginning to the end. Doing your own business well started to be the basic requirement for contemporaries. What’s more, specializing in one subject is the requirement of personal development. There is no doubt that we live in the society with fierce competition, especially during the financial crisis. The specialized knowledge is our core-competitiveness in pursue of our dream job, for most of the big corporations tends to hire people with good professional knowledge. Finally, the level of specialized knowledge shows one’s learning ability. It is easy for people to learn much for the entrance of every subject is not so high. For example, it may take you 10 minutes to learn the law of supply and demand in a free market. Everybody can understand the law and explain it out, while this is just the basement of economics. It will take you the whole life to explain this financial crisis, because this is the most professional field of economics. The more a person specializes in one subject, the more difficulties he will meet. So a high-level professional knowledge requires talent and hard work. Of course, taking classes in many classes will bring people a general system of knowledge. Subjects like music, economics and biology are the basic elements for our life. However, specializing in one subject doesn’t mean ignore the other basic knowledge. It’s a matter of the emphasis of study. All in all, specializing in one subject is the requirement of both society and personal development and stands for your learning ability.
