Aztec people 是复数，it也指代不了啊。。。

不过，单单从语法上来看，it有指代嫌疑的，应该有这三个：the same period；a hieroglyphic system of writing；a written language。。。。这是我的看法。。。请楼下的来指正

之所以不判A错，应该是从逻辑上来讲，A中的it不太会引起歧义，因为后面也说了as that of the Maya，这样就能明确it其实指代的是Aztec people的a written language。不过，这个理由比较牵强了。我也看到过很多题，明明逻辑上代词指代不会有问题，但是语法上却判错

只能说，别的选项的问题更大吧。。。。

我也不知道解释得对不对, 您先将就着看吧, 等楼下有人再来补充吧.

A. 从逻辑意思上来看，这个题是比较书面文字的，所以it应该指代written language，语法上来看it有一点指代不清的嫌疑。

B  逻辑上看错了，不是和MAYA比较，being也不对

C  BUT后面应该是完整的句子的，语法错了

D  改成which was not as highly sophisticated as that of the Maya比较好，being又错了

E  however跟在not as highly sophisticated as the Maya's 不对

看下来，只有A是最优答案了，其他都有语法错误，虽然貌似A也有问题，但考试的时候要选的就是最优答案。

but连词，后面省略主语，则该分句主语是前一分句主语-Aztec people，逻辑意思错！

however副词，在being分词结构钱，不能起到conjunction的连接作用；

Aztec people... it was... 两个分句之间没有连词。
