  4. the total number of inches of rain that fell on days with moderate rainfall in 1990 was more than twice what it had been in 1910
  5. the average amount of rainfall per month was lower in 1990 than in 1910

   Answer:

答案是A,我觉得A如果改成more才对吧,因为下雨和中雨天数少了,单全年雨量增加,只有大雨天数多参能解释呀。不是很明白,还请热心人看过来。

题中说If the statements above are true。则In 1990, there were fewer days with light rainfall than in 1910 是同样适用于P City.

我也觉得A不对,应该改成more才能statement above are ture.

我个人选了D,虽然下中雨的天数1990 fewer than 1910,但是总下雨量1990是1910的两倍多。可以理解成虽然1910下中雨的天数比较多,但每天下的时间比较短,或者比较偏向1 inch,而1990虽然下的天数少,但每天下的时间长,雨量比较大,所以1990全年雨量更大。

前面有人说C,但我觉得C和文中信息冲突,不对。

请其他人继续补充。

蒙着答案想了半天, 最后我也选了a.  我的想法是: heavy rainfall 是没有上限的。 你自己仔细算算b,c,d,e 都不行,只有a 才有可能

这个题问得是哪个POSSIBLE,所以不能怀着先入为主的概念觉得Heavy Rain需要多才行。

这个数学题说的是:Total Rainfall=Q(heavy)+Q(Modest)+Q(Light)

BC中的Some=Modest+Light,
因为 ModestDay(1990)<ModestDay(1910)
且 LightDay(1990)<LightDay(1910)
推出 ModestDay(1990)+LightDay(1990)<Modest(1910)+LightDay(1910)
BC不选

D很Tricky,Quantity of Modest=(1,2)区间,那Q[Modest(1990)]=(1,2)xModestDay(1990)
Q[Modest(1910)]=(1,2)xModestDay(1910)
因为 ModestDay(1990)<ModestDay(1910)
且 (1,2)x2=(2,4)已经超出Modest的Quantity区间
可知D不可能

E说的是Average,Q(1990)=120%*Q(1910) 推出Q(1990)/12=120%*Q(1910)/12,E不可能

只有A可能。而A说的是Heavy的天数,有可能在少的天数下的雨量大,所以Total雨量仍然大。

1910: Light  rainfall= 0.1 inch ( 9 days)

Moderate rainfall= 1.1 inch   ( 9 days)

total = 1.2 X9 =10.8

1990: light rainfall = 1 inch ( 8 days)

moderate rainfall= 2 inch ( 8days)

Total = 3X8=24

Is 1990 more than twice for 1910?
