that's really funny.

Cakehouse is right that studying for cfa is not sufficient to get you into the industry. But apart from family background, the other factors can be improved,e.g.Top b-school and solid industry knowledge (any industry preferabbly relevant with finance). You can get both in a few years provided you work hard enough.

There are people in IB with non-finance undergraduate degree indeed includ.myself. A clcassmate at bschool got structuring job used to study biology and work in IT dept at IB. Everybody has some unique selling points and keep your mind open.

Having so many useful thoughts here, no matter positive or negative, it is really useful for me. Thanks, sinopolish. Thanks, cakehouse. Hope to have further info from you.

As u know, I has a weak backgouding in finance, so I hope the CFA give me a systematic teaching process, only to prove that I know finance field. combined with cracking the major obstacls I will face in getting into a intern. Is my analysis about these above practical or not? true or false.....

Here are another some piece suggestion from a senior in UBS IB with the same major as I do, wish this can help others with the same backgrouding and predicament as I do.

Hey, nice to hear from you. I am sorry that I was actually taking training classes the whole day, I am in London with other guys from UBS worldwide. Sorry that I think I can not speak to you for long during weekdays, coz the training is intensive, from 8:30AM to 5:30PM. However, I think we can talk during the weekends, my cell phone is xxxxxxxxxxxxx.
Based on what you wrote about your background, I think the fastest path for you to enter I-banking is to go for work for now. Spending a couple of years doing graduate school in Sun Yat-Sen University is a waste of time, I think it will be so much more valuable for you to go for the swiss firm, working experience is more important than degrees. Working for like 2 -3 years, apply for MBA and go back to business school, then get ready for investment banking. I am not sure if you are aware the market condition right now, it is not a good time to enter this industry at the moment.
Having said that, a MFE can help you get into this field faster, like what I did.....
Anyway, I think you have a good shape right now, do not worry too much, apply for MFE first, if can not get it, then go for work, I guess this is my suggestion.

MFE=Master in Financial Engineering? Why bother doing such a quant degree given client facing is your preference?? Forget about the crazy idea. Keep your head down and go for a MBA a couple of years later. Banking job market is bad. Like any investment, timing matters a lot to bet on your own human capital.

In order to step into this field, working experience in finance is really important I think. So, for now, I am afraid that I have not enough knowledge to get a relative outstanding finance related job, thus top MBA become difficult.

I suppose that I need to find a compromise between field and company, If I find a good company job, they may be not related so much to finance; In contrast, if I find a job related to finance, the company maybe not good enough than the former company I mentioned in the first case.

So, which should prefer, which should be pay more attention. Job or Company?

if you are really interested in pharma or biotech. You could apply for equity research positions, working on biotech/pharma stock analysis and pricing modeling.   Half people on Wall Street are doing "research" for different industries.    CFA is really valuable for people focused on asset/portfolio management
