选校问题，诚心请教

打算申请2009年的mba, gmat已经在4月份考完。现在在选校方面很迷茫，不知道是不是应该申请top 5, 也不知道自己应该选什么学校保底。更关键的问题是，不知道是不是应该part time.......诚心请求大家帮忙。

下面是我的background:

本科：Electrical Engineering B.S. from Michigan State University, gpa 3.52/4.0
GMAT: 710 （比较鸡肋。。）
工作：IBM circuit design engineer for 3 years, very technical focused.

why MBA? 做了3年技术工作，觉得自己不想要一辈子都做在电脑前面研究电路了。非常想转行，但是在现在的工作岗位上连换work task的机会都很渺茫，所以觉得MBA是唯一的bridge了。以后想要做跟技术相关的marketing, consulting有关的工作，但是不想自己开公司单干，还是想在大公司serve, 最好是function internationally。

我的背景跟business一点关系都没有，完全工科，做的工作也是很技术的，没有什么business related...现在的选择有以下两种：

1. 一边工作一边念书，好处是毕业了也有5~6年经验了。坏处就是，只能上U. Minnesota, Calson...好像不是top school,不知道这么一笔学费的investment值不值得。（公司不太可能fund 我，因为是MBA,老板说如果是工程的就一定给钱了 ... 主要是公司这几年收益都不好，budget严重cut down)

2. full time MBA, 好处是有可能有奖学金，而且很快就能念完。但是缺点就是我不是很牛，不知道自己能不能申请到好学校，如果不能的话，这个investment就不值得了...

大家能帮我策划一下么？我应该怎么选择呢？如果是option 2, 应该选哪些学校呢？大家都说有大小年，2009的大小年应该怎么压呢？

T多少分，背景还是不错的，可以申请top20左右的学校，还有你打算读什么类型的商学院？

我不需要考T。 申请的学校希望有比较牛的administrative skill education和technical sales的training. Marketing would be a plus.

希望能有朋友不吝赐教，这里回帖帮忙的人为什么这么少呢。。。我真的好困惑呀

应该full time 还是part time呢？申请top 20里面的哪几个呢？选什么学校保底呢？这个分数，能申请到奖学金么？

要转行，绝对要全职读。

申请学校可以拉开档次，这玩意儿还是有点运气的。我觉得可以选择20出头的学校保底。

差一点的学校容易拿到奖学金。

请问有人知道明尼苏达大学的calson school of management 到底在什么位置么？business week说48名，可是我记得以前看到是25名左右？主要是不想跟bf long distance, 如果这个学校给scholarship，而且排名不是太靠后，我更愿意留在明州。

你的背景很好啊，aggressive一点，我建议你冲top 10，拿一些top 15左右的保底。

Marketing中国人很难做，很多公司明确不招国际学生的，Consulting是个不错的方向。以你的背景的话，建议你考虑一下：Wharton，MIT，Kellogg MMM，Tuck（2008年是小年，2009会是大年），U Michigan，Duke，Cornell（prefer有美国背景的中国人）。你去明尼苏达浪费了~~

谢谢大家的鼓励，我对自己的信心好像真的不够，觉得申请top 10会很难似的。不过我会try them out的，多花点时间精力准备essay什么的我觉得很值得。

我最后决定还是一心一意full time了，楼上的朋友说的对，要转行，还是应该full time. 学校方面，top 15保底是不是太冒险了呢？btw, 我是美国公民，是不是竞争对象会更多更难啊？

Don't sell your self short. I think you should apply to three top ten programs and use CMU, UVA, Cornell or Duke as your backup.  3.5 gpa coming out of an engineering program is very very impressive.  The caveat would be how you can demonstrate your leadership potential and how well rounded you are as a person and professional. Spend some time to get your story right and you should be fine. 

But I do feel you on the competition from domestic applicants.  Just don't forget to cash in on your strengths...bilingual...multicultured....quant background and minimize the usual stereotypes about engineers. 

Btw, I am also an US citizen who grew up in the states. W/E in high tech and m&a.  Will be attending Darden this fall.  Darden was my backup school.  I made the mistake of only spending a week on my app essays......
