Don't sell your self short. I think you should apply to three top ten programs and use CMU, UVA, Cornell or Duke as your backup. 3.5 gpa coming out of an engineering program is very very impressive. The caveat would be how you can demonstrate your leadership potential and how well rounded you are as a person and professional. Spend some time to get your story right and you should be fine. But I do feel you on the competition from domestic applicants. Just don't forget to cash in on your strengths...bilingual...multicultured....quant background and minimize the usual stereotypes about engineers. Btw, I am also an US citizen who grew up in the states. W/E in high tech and m&a. Will be attending Darden this fall. Darden was my backup school.
