Macquarie has more of its shares out on loan than any other Australian-listed company, in a sign that short sellers are gambling that the investment bank’s share price will tumble. The value of Macquarie’s shares on loan to institutional investors and hedge funds was A$3.2bn ($3bn) on April 25, more than 20% of the investment bank’s total market value, according to RiskMetrics, a provider of risk management services, which said that Macquarie was the most lent stock on the Australian market.
