问finance phd申请定位

先简单介绍下自己的背景吧
本科国内top school，电子,硕士美国top school，虽然属于电子系，但是研究内容是应用数学相关，现在phd在读
数学课不必说了，研究生阶段修过一些金融方面的课（拿了一个minor），但是没有修
过经济方面的课，这是我的弱项

我的career goal其实很简单，就是能在大学里教书，做research。现在的痛苦是觉得
电子方面的research不能给我很大的interest，倒是上过的金融课使我很感兴趣，因此
想转finance phd。请教一下版上各位xdjm，我这种情况应该如何定位哪个档次的
program？

GPA没有细算过，本科的成绩大概93/100吧，硕士成绩全A还有几门A+

推荐信打算找两个数学系的老师和一个finance的老师写，都是研究生时期的上过课的老师（之所以没有找导师写，是因为没有告诉他们我要读finance phd的打算）

研究没有和finance相关的，都是电子这个行当里的。已经发表2篇journal和3篇会议论文，在投1篇journal和1篇会议论文

我这种情况申请什么档次的学校？大概申请几所呢？

还有一个问题就是，我不想申请太多学校，顶多5-6所吧。另外我没有工作经历，仅有
实习经历，而且仅仅是电子相关的，这样的经历申请哪些学校没有太大劣势
呢（我自己知道没有工作经历肯定是一个很大的劣势，所以想知道劣势相对小一点的学校）？

我没有考过GMAT，只有GRE，一定要考GMAT么？

GRE is fine. I think your background is very good. If I were you, I will try to shoot for those top programs.

The problem is, I dont even know which schools are considered top programs.

Also, should I ask the professors teaching those finance classes I have taken to write recommendation letter for me, or ask my own reasearch supervisor? I fear that my research supervisors are little known in the finance field. Moreover, should I ask a couple of math professors that have taught to write RL for me?

To your 1st question: Do some research on this board. There are information on the sticky threads. There are plenty of good schools.

To the 2nd question: My answer is yes. You do want to get RL from your professors in Finance, Math and your own area. Each should focus on different aspect of your ability and interest. Your supervisor can emphasize your proven ability on research, modeling, and so on. Your math professor can show your excellent quantitative background. As for Finance professor, use this to show why you are interested in Finance research instead of continuing your current research.

Just checked the student profiles of several top schools (U-Penn, U-Chicago, HBS, Stanford, MIT and so on). Seems they almost all get BS or MS in economics. Gee... little hope.
