申请08 Finance. 发个背景，各位牛牛帮忙看下选校

Undergraduate GPA 3.5 Applied Mathematics. 北京非清华北大高校。

Master GPA 3.5 Operation Research and banking and finance.  TOP50 商学院，12月份毕业。

GMAT 720

能搞到3封推荐信，都是finance department的 ，我都上过了他们的课，而且都坐在第一排。一个是系主任，professor, 好像据他说他还比较牛。。。但我不知道怎么才算牛。貌似他说他算volatility世界上没几个比他牛。貌似他写过本和John Hull那本差不多的书，后来john hull那本出来了，他的就被淘汰了。惨阿。。。。。。。一个是从芝加哥刚毕业几年的assitant professor ,我跟她关系很好。还一个是senior lector, 据说此人很牛，就是死活不写paper. 每年我们院的最佳讲师几乎都是他的。（ 大家说我还需要从我们operation research department 弄个 Professor 写推荐信么? 我本来有一个目标的, 后来知道那个senior lector 答应给我写了 我就先没跟我们系那个教授提这事。）

我想做asset prcing这方面。已经选了几个类似UIUC, MICHAN, INDIANA(貌似还要toefl).

大家能不能给点建议哪个学校这方面比较强，我又有可能申请的到的。昨天被那个系主任打击坏了。一个劲的说什么competitive啊，你口语不好啊。弄得我老郁闷了。

现在也有公司给我offer。55k. 但是，一方面我想明年春天的时候在学校在旁听几门课，等放暑假的时候回国休息下。如果上班了就啥也干不了。

                                         可是又怕万一申请不到的话，又把工作据勒的话。h1b也没有了，啥也没有了。

大家能不能给点建议阿，谢谢各位牛牛了！！！！

想申什么学校就大胆申吧.申请这事,每人能说好.

如果这个系主任说你英语不好，找他写推荐信一定要慎重，如果他把英语不好写进去，负面影响极大。

if the senior lecturer that you mentioned above has little or no publication at all, don't ask her to write reference letter for you. it simply does not work out.

btw, just fyi, in asset pricing, strong schools are Chicago (strong in each field of finance), Stanford, UCLA, among others. Maybe you have to consider some European schools as the competition is really really fierce (a lot  more than you can expect). don't get me wrong, i am not saying that you are disqualified but that there are too much overqualified students (from China). put it in another way, if you were coming from other country, say ABC, than China but with the same level of expertise, you might be selected by the program. image  there are 20 very qualified China students and 1 student from ABC and the program has 3 slots left. the school might not randomly pick 3 candidates among 21 because with high probability they will end up with all 3 Chinese who might have strong covariation among them (they lose diversification at all). Instead, they might choose 2 from 20 among Chinese and ''geneoursly'' give the final slot to the one from country ABC. this is the same as optimal asset allocaiton decision in classical asset pricing theory with rational expectation equilibrium.

我现在在犹豫是让那个刚毕业assitant professor写呢----跟她关系很好，选了她 一门，旁听了一门。

还是让我们operation research系的一个Associate Professor 写呢？这个教授挺不错的，在亚洲教书好几年。跟他关系还可以，我这学期做了他的TA. 就是感觉我给他的印象不是太深，在他的课上我只拿了个B。。。。。。

那个SENIOR LECTOR还是很厉害的，warten毕业，90年就在我们学院教书，据说harvard曾经让他去他都没去。水平也挺高的。就是因为系里一些政治斗争的问题没当上 professor.后来一赌气也就这么着了。

犹豫啊，到底让谁写好呢？？

Insider 们，给点建议吧。

chair -ask him not to memtion the language concern, which otherwise will ruin your application;

assistant prof. -the most important one. She is active in research and people should know her well. Why don't talk with her about what you want?

senior lecture -whatever his history is, he is a lecture in a lower-tier b-school and nobody will value his words. If I were you, I won't take his letter.

啊，楼上的。其实那个SENIOR Lecture他也是这么跟我说的，说让我MAKE SURE有个NB的 Professor写。

只是我对他的感觉挺特殊的，就是属于我特尊重的那种。我上过他4门课，有旁听的有注册的。感觉是他带我入的finance的门，而且他还帮过我一个大忙。我问他要推荐信的时候都没什么自信，没想到他还真答应给我写了。我真是蛮感激他的。

Anyway， 确定让那个assistant professor 写了。谢谢楼上的啦
