Not to be exaggrated, almost everybody knows Holleywood, which is the “dream works” to people all around the world. People love to watch movies, discuss the contents of the latest movies, and collect news about the famous film stars, with very little difference across the races, ages and culture backgrounds. In my view, the attraction of movies are ruted in human nature, society pressure, and the esthetic function of movies.

 

People like to hear stories and learn from stories. The best movies act as excellent story tellers in our lives. Compared to the serious literatures or acdemic articles, people would like to choose a meaningful movie to help them better understand the world. A story of the adventure of a brave yound boy around the world can best show the culture difference of different races, in a very impressive and easy way. Thanks to the development of the movie production industry, more and more colorful stories from books and magazines have been shoted into movies. As a result, more frequently people go to the cinemas.

 

Secondly, movies provide one of the most comfortable way for people to relax themselves after competitive work during the day. Once you are seated in the soft sofa in the cinema with either your family or friends, movies can grasp your attention quickly and guide you to concentrate on what is happening on the screen. By focusing on other things, you have usually two precious hours to forget your work temporarily which realse your pressure gradually.

 

To deepen the discovery, movie is not only a method to entertain people, it is also one form of art to improve people’s esthetic perspective. Fortunately, we have so many respectable masters that directed excellent movies and leave us such valuable assets. For some people, besides the function of knowledge learning and pressure releasing, movies can pure their spirits and deepen their views regarding livies and society.

 

To conclude, I would say trend is that movies are going to become part of livies of more and more people. Movies give us the sweet memories of our childhood, accompany us during the grow-up process, and will also help us at some degree in the future.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Teachers should be paid according to how much their students learn. Give specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

 

The trend is that, parents, education administration office and students themsevles care more than before about the effect of the teaching from teachers. Therefore one opinion advocates that teachers should be evaluated only through the amount of knowledge their students learn. In my point of view, although the willing is good, it seems not so perfect and practical to do it that way. Because it will ruin the value of education, narrow the teaching effect, and beat the inspiration of teachers’.

 

It is very hard to evaluate how much the students learn from the quantitive level. Most of this attumpt would lead to simply equal the knowledge learnt to the test scores student gained. If everyone focused only on the scores, people would neglect the real meaning of education, which is for example not only to learn the exact skill of using computer, or drawing pictures, but more importantly, to discover the unexplored areas in computer programming, or to appreciate the beauty of arts.

 

Secondly, students will lose the precious way of learning and this will limit their understanding of what they learn. To better prepare for tests, teachers prefer to give lectures alone and have strong intention to cram knowledge into the minds of his/her students. However, a social science thoery or an inovative scientific discovery can be better understood through group discussion and interactive debate. Focusing only on scores, students get very little chance to experience the mutual learning process and no one will care about what is really learnt.

 

Finally, the morale of teachers will be defeated if the evaluation they receive depends totally on the result of learning from their students. In most colleges, besides the task of teaching, teachers assume the role of acdemic research as well. It is unfair to pay professors only based on their teaching. Published papers and research achievement should also be taken into consideration.

 

To conclude, I would say that effective criteria is needed to evaluate the behavior of teachers and this can proactively stimulate teachers to better perform their teaching job. However, it is not perfect to decide the salary one teacher gains only from how much their students learn.
