关于Robinst MM申请录取心得的提问

1.
Hub interview in Shanghai with Palson. The most difficult one
is......describe a typical working day of you.....hard to compile
thoughts logically and utter things meaningfully...

2.
2nd round, first time applicant. My reply about re-applicants pls see
my comments to someone asked about re-application above.

3.
made a plan at the very beginning when I started, including exam prep,
school selection, essays, interviews.....although there were unexpected
things cut in my schedule and broke some of my timeline, I still think
i had a great plan for the whole process. However, I hoped I prepared
for the interview question "a typical day", coz i actually anticipated
it to be asked....but i didn't.....5555~~~

4.
It is not about any ONE quality of me, but a well-rounded profile I put
together. Not any particular, single point can make you in HBS, but a
WELL-ROUNDED one could.

For me personally,

Hardware----I
hv unique grow-up background, successful but can not say "exceptional"
working track in a non-futune 500 company, very colorful undergraduate
social and community acitivies in leadership role; very rich and unique
social and community involvement after college, very solid
recommendations from my US counterparty (I didn't do anything with my
recommendations....they wrote by themselves.), very diversified
personal interests and hobbies, very ambitious and logic career goal in
essay. Good structured essays, good writing skills, very logic and
plan-ahead thinking shown in essays too.....Low GPA, but great Gmat,
mediocre resume (i am glad those weaknesses didn't kill me.)

Sofeware----
Hv all the personal qualities that HBS will love to see in its
applicants. Extremely passionate, extremely optimistic, highly
introspective, very active, risk-taking, highly confident, highly
mature, highly curious, a bit sarcastic, dedicated, animal lover and
environmentalist, business-sophisticated, good interpersonal skills, hv
strong belief. well-balanced.....

So, this is my profile that put me in HBS....I am highly confident that the whole package makes me exceptional

看了Robinst MM的心得感动啊，package能准备成这样真的是精益求精了。怪不得最终打动了HBS Adcom！

有3个小问题：

1.注意到了总结
中的一点表述，似乎你对自己的resume的评价并不太高，只说是“mediocre”...请问一个好的resume应该有哪些要素呢？Essay的题
目已经问了很多很好的问题，基本上能进简历的东西都体现在essay里面了，那么简历在整个package里面还有什么其它的value-add吗？

2. community activities主要体现哪方面的素质呢？由于各种原因，我的social community activities经历比较有限，会是我的一个弱点，怎样能适当弥补呢？

3. 兴趣广泛本身会是一个很被看重的优点吗？比如只是文艺、体育等方面的兴趣和参加相关的活动，并没有参与组织之类的，是不是irrelevant?

期待各路牛牛指点。

我不是牛,只是个走在申请路途中得普通人.
个人觉得你似乎很在意自己得弱点,并且希望找出一些优点来让自己 stand out.
不能说这个思路有问题,但个人觉得有比找自己个人优点缺点更重要得的东西,就是你确信你真的清晰了解你自己了吗?就我来说,我发现对自己了解越清晰,我就越觉得所谓"弱点"其实也可以看成是优点,财富.个人觉得上面那个MM不是因为有多强,只是因为她很坦诚,也就是说对自己很了解,才成功的哦,不应该说成功,更确切的是得到了一个相对好的机会,让她更清楚的了解自己,让她有一个机会去发展实现自己理想所需要的能力.
Anyway,完全是个人意见,大家一笑而过.

继续顶，ls把弱点看成是财富，说得很有道理啊。可是怎么把弱点看成优点，就不太好理解了。希望大家多发表意见。

ls的，正在争分夺秒准备essay。关于如何把弱点看成优点，根据本人比较阿Q的精神，我是这样理解的。可能不是完全正面回答到你的问题，但是希望你能读到那么一点意思。

首先，弱点不是坏事，没人是完美的，所以首先没什么需要自责或者觉得不好意思地，至少正视自己弱点说明你是个勇敢的人。

第二，弱点给了你以后发展中需要克服的一个动力，因为知道自己这方面薄弱所以有意识的克服，或者发展点别的弥补一下，证明自己是愿意take action的人。

第三，人要善于总结和学习，弱点可能让你曾经吃亏或者做什么事不那么成功，well,失败也是不可避免的，但是如何体现你和别人的不同就在于你如何从失败中获取经验并避免以后不再犯同样的错误，这是非常宝贵的。

一点点愚见，仅供参考

HI楼主,我发现我得思路跟你确实不一样,如果理解错了勿怪
1)你得思路:
show出你得闪光点,吸引别人,无可厚非得思路.所以你一直很在意希望"掩饰"自己得感觉,不好意思,可能用词不当
2)我得思路
be honest to myself ------------->认真分析自己得缺点---------------->看清楚自己-------------->MBA是否真得象我开始想得时候那样适合我.
如果不是,找别的路,
如果是,那就继续,这个时候,缺点已经成为你得优势跟宝藏了,往往失败得越惨,硬伤越大,死得越难看,越真实,越能打动人.
以上纯属个人感觉,谢谢

accomplishments or feats that are unusual or different from your peers
(e.g., traveling to an exotic place or talking about a tragic situation

But how are you to know which of your experiences are unique when
you know neither the backgrounds of the other applicants nor the topics

What makes you unique is not that you have had these experiences,
but rather how and why your perspective has changed or been reinforced
as a result of those and other everyday experiences.

    

That is a story that only you can tell. If you concentrate your
efforts on telling us who you are, differentiation will occur

----我的简历是很明显的一个弱点， 弱到后来一个同参加HBS INTERVIEW的人看了后怀疑我怎么也能拿到HBS INTERVIEW的。。。不过在比对看过他的简历前我自己一直没有意识到。因为当时申请没有人指点，所以不知道要如何在简历里表达优势而已。另外，简历里的大部分工作内容业绩其实在ESSAY里是不能体现的， 没篇ESSAY 是围绕“一个”故事为主线的，主要侧重的不是故事内容，而是你当时的所思所想所做。 而简历是侧重每个工作职位的“许多”ACHIEVEMENTS的，所以比ESSAY 要更全面。  简历要体现个人的ACHIEVEMENTS以及能够体现个人“领导魄力”的内容， 用词要强，不能用很弱的词去表达（比如LEAD A PROJECT TEAM TO ACHIEVE...., 而不是说 ASSIST A TEAM TO ACHIEVE ....）。

2. community activities主要体现哪方面的素质呢？由于各种原因，我的social community activities经历比较有限，会是我的一个弱点，怎样能适当弥补呢？

－－体现你的社会责任感。哈佛自诩她培养的领导人才不仅能领导一个企业，而且要能影响社会， 将来去改变许多社会问题。我个人从两方面表现：大学时候的VOLUNTEER活动和工作时的COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT. 这些活动侧面也可以体现你的领导能力（如果在领导职位的话）。 但我也知道我一个同学没有参加过什么COMMUNITY 活动，但是她自己个人资助贫困学生等等，这些其实也是个人社会责任感的体现。

3. 兴趣广泛本身会是一个很被看重的优点吗？比如只是文艺、体育等方面的兴趣和参加相关的活动，并没有参与组织之类的，是不是irrelevant?

--其实学校不CARE你有什么兴趣，学校真正CARE的是你是否是一个能够八面玲珑工作，但是又能平衡自己生活的人。 告诉他们你喜欢跳舞运动音乐种菜种花可以让他们知道你不是一个“无趣”的人。不需要参加什么组织，兴趣跟组织有什么关系？
