Basically, consultants deal with projects to help provide solutions to either corporates or government. Bankers aim to provide capital financing solutions to customers and maximize the use of capital. 2. Definitely you need to be a team player. If you have done MBTI before, I think E, T and J will fit in IB and MC. 3. A lot of Chinese alumni from INSEAD used to work or work for top consulting firms. As for IB, LBS is slightly stronger than INSEAD now because it's a 2 year program and its location really helps a lot. 4. Stress? How much stress you think you will get when you have to work till 2-3 am everyday for 6 days every week? Consulting is slightly better. 60-80 working hours based on projects. 5. No specific data. If you graduate from top b school, you will have bigger chance to secure a job here. 6. Think carefully. Are you really into finance? or you're just chasing after the money. Not many people can stand the inhuman long working hours for long time. For 3 and 4 above: - Insead is definitely my dream school, but to be frank, when it comes to the possibility to place MBA students into IBs, LBS is much better than Insead, given its great location and track record. Insead is traditionally strong in helping its graduates to land a job in consulting (well, of course, some of them were consultants prior to Insead) - Working hours in consulting sometimes is as horrible as in IBs, though the absolute cash return (i.e. salary and bonus) is much less than the latter (esp in current booming capital market). However, compensation should be just one of the criteria when you choose your future career path, as these two industries will lead you to different directions, train you with different skill sets and mindsets. To inseadsh, I am just curious what's your post-MBA career goal. Consulting? Banking? Corporate? |
