In this set of materials, the reading passage is an article about boycott, and the listening passage is a lecture on the same topic.

According to the article, during the boycott, people refuse to buy, sell, or trade with an individual or business that they believe to be doing something morally wrong.

In the listening passage, the professor describes two cases of boycott led by the same person. The first is a grape boycott caused by the refusal of the grape grower accept the union of the grape pickers. So those workers stopped picking grapes, many people marched in support of the pickers, eventually some grape growers signed agreements with the union. The second one is a lettuce boycott caused by the lack of union contracts, and so people refused to buy lettuce. An effect of both boycotts was the negative attention directed at the growers.
