Should a city try to preserve its old, historic buildings or destroy them and replace them with modern buildings? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion. Just close your eyes and imagine a scene that you are driving around the city, perhaps the first thing coming into your mind is the skyscrapers with shining facades and labyrinth gallop bridges. However, how many historical buildings can you see, or even remember? Destroyed, leveled, and buried under those modern buildings, the historical buildings faded away from the world’s architecture stage. Some organizations are appealing for protecting the historical buildings, while others prefer to construct modern buildings. But I hope both of them can exist side by side. First, it’s important to protect historical buildings. They represent not only the splendid history of this country, but also the country’s civilization process. Every empire would add his own culture symbols to the place he conquered, or built a new brilliant palace to show his superior power. Also that’s why the historical buildings have always been artworks. For instance, Greece, an ancient country, remains and protects a lot of historical buildings of thousands of years ago, most of which are related to mythology, and the Athens Acropolis is still the dreaming place of most visitors. On the other hand, it’s necessary to build modern buildings, because they show the development of a country today. From functional aspect to artistic aspect, modern architects are trying to carry out the ideal buildings in their minds. Such as the ‘Nest’, an Olympic stadium which is constructing for 2008 Beijing Olympics, is maybe the focus of world attention. Although I don’t think it is the most outstanding building, it really exhibits a novel constructional idea and trend. In my opinion, I hope both historical buildings and modern buildings can exist coherently. We shouldn’t pull down historical buildings and then make room for modern ones blindly, but make a comprehensive plan. Xi’an is a city in China which does very well on balancing historical remains and modern buildings. If there is no historical buildings but only filled with fashion, future-like modern buildings, I think the city will lose its own special characteristics and become very impulsive.
errr....写的很幼稚 谢谢大家批评指教!
