I have couple of friends went to the Stanford MS&E program around 7 years ago.  Here are what they are now.  Hope this will give you a better idea.  Prior to joining this program, some of them told me the reason they pick this program is becoz it makes them easier to get back in the Stanford MBA program, also about the branding.  But I think in the long run, the school's name won't help you much as everything is counting on your own ability.

1. age 36, now working as a staff in IT department (still not managerial position)

2. age 29, was a pricing analyst, but quit this job for 1+ year and still cannot find a job to IB

3. age 30, joined Bain as MC, now working on his family business

4. age 31, IT consultant

My brother and bf went to Cornell MFE, my brother is a research analyst in IB and my bf is a analyst in hedge fund.

There are several spots for OR transfer to FE option in Cornell.  I think once you get in, it's much more easier for your to find a way to it.  My friend in undergraduate school was applying to business program on freshman year, got denied.  She kept seeing the dean in 2 months and eventually got her way into the program, and she is now working in Goldman as VP.

Yes, I agree that nothing is impossible.

我觉得两个学校在金融里的声望差不多的。著名的赌局，丹尼斯和x打赌到底trader是不是天生的还是完全可以后天培养出来的，x就是chicago出来的（名字记不得了），期货界有名的数学玩得转的人；传说中的soros的接班人，一个天才的年轻人就是cornell出来的。反正街上找着两个学校的校友都是一大陀的吧。至于投入产出比，我觉得投入倒是可以忽略不计的。相信大家也这么认为。
