1. campus visit invitation from Boston College. (around 10 candidates was invited, but not at one time, 5 of them will be admitted.) 2. interview with U Indiana. (when I first time email them, they said I'm merely within the top 15, but later I got an interview with them. During the interview, I sensed that my chance is not bad, of course I was not sure. What I'm saying is maybe you don't need to be within the top 3 of their list to get and admission.) (Because I was not defeated in my battle with my family at that time, I told them I gonna go to job in the interview. That absulotely killed me right away) 3. Interview & offer from University of Iowa. (The interview came in one afternoon, the prof explicitly told me my chance is very high. Then I got my first offer on phone next morning. They sent out 4 offers this year.) 4. Wait-list from Ohio State University. (Shortly after offer from Iowa, I got informed that I'm on the wait-list of OSU, "I can not make a commitment, but during my years here, I've been here for 7 years, every year we moved on to our wait-list." said by the prof. That happened again this year, so I got offer from them after a couple weeks. So if you are only on a wait-list now, your chance is not that low. Although there won't be many people reject their offer, the wait-list itself is short, sometimes YOU ONLY is the wait-list) 5. Got interview opportunity from City University of New York. PSU invited me to do a campus visit / interview. USC told me that I was on its wait-list, and wanted me to visit it in April. Those three almost happened at the same day. (No long interested in PSU and CUNY, given I already got offer from U Iowa at that time, so I ganna reject them. Still want to take a look at the USC, but almost decided to go OSU, almost.) 6. Campus visit at Boston College (Their program is good, students are very international. But the city of Boston sucks! Also the campus is so small relative to UW-Madison, and all the building are crowded. I admire it academically, but don't like it personally. I don't know whether this feeling comes from my 2 years' living in wild middle west....) (They ask many 'technical' questions. But they are all reasonable and based on your transcript. For example, they looked at mine and asked:" You took a game theory class, so tell us something about Nash equilibrium." That was the worst interview I did, I should have been more prepared. I still got no reply today, so very likely that 5 doesn't include me ) 7. Campus visit at U Iowa (Their campus is very like UW's, big, wide and clear, which is something I like very much. The students there are all nice. Amazingly, there're many Chinese students. In my chat with those profs, I feel they are very proud with their Chinese students. So maybe more CDer should apply for it next year. More importantly, althought the contract is 20 hours, the actual work load of assistantship is relatively low, 8 hours per work on average, 10 hours in busy time. Suffice to say, after visiting both, U Iowa turned out to be better than BC for me. Btw, BC ranks higher indeed, but not enough to differentiate their graduates' placement from U Iowa.) 8. Offer from Ohio State University. On phone, just came at the moment I walked out of U Iowa B-school. Freakingly lucky! Now the only two left on my list and may be above OSU is USC and CMU, I don't think I'm lucky enough to get offer from CMU, so USC will be my last try. P.S. The universities that already rejected me: Uw-Madison, UIUC, Duke, Rochester, Univ of Washington, Emory, UPENN (of course) As you can see, I'm freakingly lucky to get offer from OSU. Also, I find it wise to apply for at least 15 universities. Good Luck for all. For those who didn't have offer yet, believe me, there will be a offer storm in April. So, be cool. My profile can be find easily in my first and second post, allow me not to do the repeating work, thx. I'll continue report, and when I make my final decision, I'll let you know. |
