请问over the course of 是什么意思啊？我查longman是:during the period。但是如果按照这个理解，好像没有一个答案正确了。

我今天刚做了。我觉得就是during the 19th century。

文章一开始就是说1896年那件事，父母没得到赔偿因为那个小孩只有两岁“made no real economic contribution to the family”,所以选A.
