请教 杨鹏难句里的一句

  我怎么觉得这句话的意思是，，虽然不能证明可与亨相比，但还是对试图统一因素的鼓励？ 这个。。。。。哪里可以看出来“在某种程度上注定是无法令人信服的”呢？？

第一中可能是James 和their presence并不是对立的，只是从另一个方面来看novelistic　construction 这个问题。

虽然这presence 和james的论点相比未必能也不需要能argue an　authorial awareness of novelistic　construction，但他可以 encourage attempts to unify the novel’s　heterogeneous parts.

也可能是encourage attempts to unify the novel’s　heterogeneous parts从另一个角度来反对了james的看法，所以是不可信服的，这大概要联系上下文来看吧。

不然完全想不通～～～

一开始还觉得是对后半句让步：即使能encourage attempts,也无法与J相比，所以才不能信服。。但是也不对~
