以下是引用fanjun1978在2006-12-18 11:28:00的发言:

If LZ wants to go back to China, Cornell is much better. Tuck is much less known in China.

LZ already has two MS degrees from Cornell. He can expand his network if he goes to Tuck.

Tuck08China, thank you for shedding some light on the choice I'm facing. Cornell's TMO is a 12 month version of MBA. It squeezes the core curriculum of a regular two-year MBA program into 10 weeks of intense study. The program also skips the summer internship, which really concerns me as a career switcher from high-tech industry to finance industry.

As a MBA insider, could you please kindly provide some information about what sub-areas in finance are more suitable for old students (above 30's), especially those with strong engineering background.?

iF you wanna change your industry, go to Tuck. One year progam without the internship is not gonna help you switch.

This is not true

I know one girl from Cornell one-year program and now has received offers from almost all tier-one consulting corporations although she did not have any consulting experience before

If I were LZ, I would definitely choose Cornell. First, Cornll's brand is much better than Tuck outside US; Second, it is just one-year program and will not pose big gap in working experience; 3. money talks.

Both are IVY league. Both are top schools.        But time is money and we are not in our early twenties. I vote for Cornell.   Besides, Cornell is closer to NY than Tuck.

But is finance comparable with consulting? 1 yr and no intern is still OK for MC. But maybe not good enough for IB...

Considering LZ's age, I do not think IB is a good choice for him...

For consulting, he can also consider PE Sector, which is very hot for financial consulting service in recent years

以下是引用zjmzjm在2006-12-17 16:16:00的发言:

I got offers from both Tuck and Cornell(TMO).  Cornell gave me 30k scholarship (I forgot to apply for Tuck scholarship).

Background:

Got two MS degrees from Cornell 5 years ago (both in engineering).

Have been working for a top tech company in the US for 5.5 years.

I'm thinking about changing to the finance industry.

Eventually, I will go back to China.

Cornell:  cheap and short time. (this is important for me since I'm not young any more). I'm not sure if the 12 month program is long enough for my career switch.

Tuck:  higher ranking. The two year program is supposed to be good for career switcher. The cost is so damn high.

xdjm, please help me make decision.

thanks

Agree. It's really hard to be a 32 Associate who report to a 30 Yr old VP

Although there is always an exception, i.e. Former ML chief, he switch to IB after 8 yrs in GM
